Too much at….. too early

No, I am not your alarm clock, I’m better… well, not really, but I’m trying be. Okay look, I know Mondays are like the last donut in the box that nobody wants to touch because everyone has touched it at least once aaand… its gross. But suck it up, put your big girl/boy panties on (all styles accepted), twirl/shake it through a mist of your favorite perfume/cologne, slip into your favorite ‘I feel goood… shoot, I look good too!‘ outfit and play your favorite album on your way to work & sing at the top of your lungs. Yup. Even if you take: Trax/the bus/your bike/rollerblades/wings/disco-make-you-fly-sneaks. Just sing baby! And have a fantastic day to ring in the new week!

I’m trying to offer a blog that everyone can benefit from. I know that has not always been the case (my apologies) Here are a few things to browse while you enjoy your breakfast of champions AKA the last donut. Don’t worry……. I won’t tell anyone, as long as you wipe that scowl off your face & smile before your boss gets in.

All my annoying-ly happy-thoughts-at….too-early, Bee

Sevenly

Working hard for your money can be extremely rewarding; for me, this is the case when I put my hard earned funds towards positive things. I believe one thing that can be very fulfilling is giving back, especially to those less fortunate. Someday, I plan to give more then just my time to the community & eventually, our world. I hope those reading this know I am saying this with a big heart & heavy dreams. As a college student I can’t always give material resources or funds but what I can give is my time. I also choose to lend my voice to great organizations in high hopes that I can help spread a good thing. I am genuine about helping others & eager to do my part.

After doing some research I discovered Sevenly: a fantastic and organic funding movement to raise capital and awareness for the world’s greatest causes.

So, there are six days left to reach their goals for this weeks cause: fighting hunger in Haiti.  (click text to be linked to this weeks video)

Lets help them raise $7,000 for Haiti’s people who are suffering & in need of real support.

So I am reaching out to you to get some help — can you take the 30 seconds to click “share” and make a social donation?

They need 4,361 Facebook shares & 193 shares on Twitter. If all of us at Commander in Chic work together we can easily help them get closer to reaching these goals. Are you with me?

Take Your Baby by the Hand

Yesterday I spent a couple hours in bed after work with some weird bug. Andy brought me Kneaders & I soon realized how much some solid food and rest can do for a girl (one of those “duh” moments). Shortly after I was up and at it around the house. The next 4 weeks will be a bit chaotic around here because it is the end of the semester. Having my home in a good state should contribute to the fight for sanity during finals.

I’d say I’m ‘trying to get my wardrobe organized‘… but lets be real, when am I not trying to get my wardrobe organized?? It’s a year round, never-ending thing. All of my girlfriends know what I’m talking about… They’ve all been over for bags of clothes that my ass outgrew or the 6 shirts I bought because ‘they match my shoes’  (that I don’t need & that look exactly alike). But sometimes you’re left with some gems & those clothes are just too pretty to keep hidden in the closet — which is why the clothes rack was invented. Mine is coming along and I am quite pleased with it. Someday when I’m not too ghetto to buy the wooden hangers I will. But that day is not today.

I hit a wall at about 11:30 and that’s when I found Andy in the kitchen. He had been setting his computer up for work & finally got his speakers to work. Wang Chung was blasting & you could tell he was trying so hard not to break out in a full on dance (he was doing the slow & discreet foot shuffle while his arms swung back n’ forth a bit. hilarious)

__________

Next thing you know we’re dancing in the kitchen to ‘Dance Hall Days’ while he twirls me around in my painting/cleaning clothes & sings along to every word. We almost made it through the whole song but our asses are out-of-SHAPE (& we both needed a drink)

We of course played Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd  & Can’t You See by the Marshall Tucker Band. I’m convinced these are the moments that true love is found, over & over again. Happy Friday sweets, I hope you take the time to dance with someone you love this weekend. Even if it’s just a bit of shufflin’ & swinging of the arms. It’ll feel good, I promise.

Holi Festival of Colors SLC, Ut

If my best friend wasn’t en route to my abode for the weekend I’d be experiencing this in my hometown today. But I don’t have any room to complain — next year we’ll be there twirling in the colors, basking in free hugs & feeling the buzz of Springs energy at the Holi Festival 2013.

Until then, we’ll recreate it with bubbly & music in my living room. Can’t wait to see you, sissy.

Happy weekend, loves!!

Have the courage to use your voice

Lets get this straight. Just because somebody is different then you does not give you the right to hurt them. If you believe you are superior in some way or another I want you to know you are not. We are all equal and deserve to be treated in an all-loving zero-judging way.  When we choose to use our words & physical strength in a negative way by putting others down it shows our true character, not the person who we are hurting.

When I was in high school I worked with students who had a harder time adjusting to the social scene of a classroom setting then others. I loved seeing them begin to open up to me and the other mentors after learning that they could trust us — that they were not going to be judged or treated differently. Each of them are brilliant and have amazing things to offer to the world, they just needed somebody to give them a chance.

Now I work for a company that helps high school dropouts get back into school called The American Academy. There is an alarming amount of students I talk to every single day that tell me the reason they dropped out is because they no longer felt safe because of bullying or had social barriers that effected their education. So they turn to us, where we help them get their high school diploma in an environment that does not put them at risk of being bullied. To learn more, go here.

I encourage all of you to support this film and the message it is promoting. Spread the word, stop bullying. Take your children, friends, family and anyone else that is willing to do their part to stop this awful problem. Nobody deserves the pain that bully creates. Take action! We cannot afford to lose any more young lives. It is just not okay. I am passionate about protecting our children and teaching them how to stand up for those who are in need. I refuse to turn the other way.

Life is hard and sometimes, especially when we are young, we say things we do not mean. Some may say their kids are “perfect” and think they would “never hurt anyone”. Parents, please, take this seriouslyIt starts at home.

Will Knows

It’s Monday Morning & you probably don’t have much time to spare. But if you do, listen to this motivational video with Will Smith. I think he has done a fantastic job balancing his career and his family, which is something that is truly difficult to do even when you’re not a celebrity.

Another reason I love Will Smith? He celebrates his wife instead of acting like he is entitled to having her be his partner (need an example? go here) I don’t care who you are, whether you are a celebrity, CEO, or athlete, you still need to cherish and celebrate the brilliant people in your life. My belief is that if you aren’t being celebrated it is time to upgrade.

And… I’d feel wrong for not sharing these photos of their home that showcases their incredible taste. Can you say dream home?

Being picky about what I put into my mind: #2

Todays motivational podcast is “The Masters of The Secret”

I read The Secret for the first time when I was a junior in high school. I was struggling at school and in my personal life at the time and was looking for any and all solutions. Bad habits were making my days revolve around negativity and I was tired of living like that — I was ready to give life my very best. After reading it my day to day life began to shift. My habits went from negative to positive and I was much happier. It wasn’t a miracle, it wasn’t magic, it was a decision I made that focused on turning my life around. The Secret teaches you how to handle life’s ups and downs and how to create a good life for yourself.

Follow this link to listen to Bill Harris talk to the people behind the Secret. The things I learned during my junior year in high school from The Secret  are still used in my life today. I hope you find it to be as uplifting & inspiring as I do.

To all naysayers: If you think The Secrets method of using The Law of Attraction does not work, then you’re right. If you believe it can work, it will. What you put out is what you get back. Your thoughts are powerful, whether you believe they are or not.

All my love, Bee
