Made To Love

Alright people I’m just going to make this simple. I love to love. I truly feel like I as an individual was made to love. Some have told me that’s not really a “thing” but I like to think otherwise. It is my strongest (and at times it has been my weakest) trait.

I always have and always will firmly believe that when in doubt you just have to add a little love to it. So I do. Every single day I make it a point to say “I love you” to someone in my life without even speaking those three words. With time I’ve learned that there are so many ways that you can say I love you, it just comes down to whether or not the receiving individual is able to hear it.

So, lets take a break from that discussion so that I can make a quick point about today: It’s really kind of weird to me that people who are single get so down on themselves on Valentines day. Is the day not about love? Do you not have any in your life? If not, create it. Self-love, google it. Family and friends? Yah go squeeze the shit out of them, it feels really good I promise. Love is so much more than flowers, chocolate, and diamonds on a random day in February. Don’t dwell on the fact that it may be lacking. Just make it happen. You deserve it.

So, since today is “love-day” I vow to celebrate the ridiculous amount that I am blessed to have in my life. My family and friends make my world go ’round. And I’m going to do my very best to remind them of that.

So if and when you feel kind of bummed today do this: Slow down, take a big deep breath, focus on what you have and repeat after me: life is not about what I can get, it is about what I can give.

And hopefully your heart will feel a little lighter, your world a bit brighter, and your soul will stir with ideas of how you can bring more love into the peoples lives around you. Which, in the most badass way ever, will bring more love into your life in return. How about that for a thought? It’s a win-win babe. I’m tellin’ ya. Love is kind of magical like that. So please, have a beautiful day, kick ass, hug lots of peeps alright?

All my love, cheesy thoughts (and 20-something thoughts) on love until next time,

XOXO, B

Didn’t feel a drop

Today I’d like to sit beneath an umbrella and kiss until the rain stops; Then we can go inside & laugh about how we didn’t feel a drop. How special is it to have someone to do such silly things with and not have it feel silly at all.

I love you Andy. I can’t wait for you to come home.

All my love, Honey

My daughter will be…

“I’ve got two daughters who will have to make their way in this skinny-obsessed world, and it worries me, because I don’t want them to be empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones; I’d rather they were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny – a thousand things, before ‘thin’. And frankly, I’d rather they didn’t give a gust of stinking chihuahua flatulence whether the woman standing next to them has fleshier knees than they do. Let my girls be Hermiones, rather than Pansy Parkinsons. Let them never be Stupid Girls.”

What-I-Eat-Wednesday

I have such a bad snacking problem. Often I will wake up in the middle of the night and whisper to Andy, “You know what sounds so good right now?” he grumbles “what…” and then I say the 3 deadly words “Oreos & milk.”

I’ve decided to start What I Eat Wednesday’s where I will post a healthy snack that I love. The recipes will be as quick & easy as possible because I want these to be things that you can turn to in times of desperation. Example: If I don’t have a piece of cake right now I might just die. Solution: If I don’t have some brussel sprouts right now I just might die. See where I’m getting with this? Let’s begin day one of happy snacking. Today we are having brussel sprouts!

My question is this, why do brussel sprouts scare people? I eat them like candy. Honestly one of the easiest snacks and they are so good for you, too. Here is my quick & easy recipe.

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  • Cut the ends off of all the brussel sprouts and peel the first couple of leaves off. Wash and rub with olive oil
  • Cut up some red (or white) onion. Do as much as you’d like. I love onions so I usually use quite a bit but do it to your preference
  • Sprinkle with a little sea salt & then put them in the oven on a cookie sheet with the onions sprinkled on top of the brussel sprouts.
  • Cook for 15 minutes and then flip them over so they cook evenly. Keep a close eye on them, everyones oven is different.
  • I usually leave them in for another 10 minutes or so and then sprinkle a tiny bit of parmesan cheese on them & put them back in until it’s melted.
Snack happy, loves!  If you’re still not convinced… 11 Health Benefits of brussel sprouts via “Eat this!”

“Never forget the dexterous & deft”

In honor of  Theodor Seuss Geisel’s birthday, also known as Dr. Seuss, I wanted to post my favorite quote by him. Shortly after I began the search for “my favorite” I realized I was being foolish to think I could stand to pick just ONE.

My aunt Kerry & cousin Kimberly would read his books to me at grandmas when I was wee, I read them to Talya and Zeb, and I still sneak away to the children’s section at the bookstore to get a chapter or two in. His message speaks to souls of every age and that, I believe, is what made him brilliant. Thank you for painting the trials of life with every color imaginable. Here’s to you, Mr. Geisel. Happy Birthday

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own.
And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

“You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.”

“All alone! Whether you like it or not, alone is something you’ll be quite a lot”

The second one is really beautiful to me. I find that a healthy amount dose of alone time (when spent doing positive things) is very rewarding. In my opinion it’s an excellent way to find yourself over & over again without paying a dime for a therapist ;)

“It has often been said
there’s so much to be read,
you never can cram
all those words in your head.

So the writer who breeds
more words than he needs
is making a chore
for the reader who reads.”

Last but not least the quote that hits close to home for all writers. I believe being a powerful writer means packing a punch with a small amount of words. This is something I (obviously) have to work on every single day.

I’ve been taking the time to appreciate my big office window, orchids, & afternoon lattes. Sunshine & caffeine are wonderful at brightening any day. So is this song
