Running towards the unknown

  • Insecurities
  • Self doubt

My doctor told me to squeeze a quick workout in when I need more energy after a day at work (ya, so not what I was wanting to hear) Did I listen? Yes. Did I do it? No. Today is a day for things I’ve never done, so I stopped the cycle of one bad habit: laziness. I have three articles due tomorrow & I need authentic energy right now. Instead of going for coffee, I ran.

Often when we go towards the unknown we are surprised with what we find — that was the case in this situation. I ran a new route and discovered my own personal haven. The road was freshly paved & barely big enough for one vehicle. To my left there was a field of freedom: calfs snuggled with their mommas while some just stood & looked at me curiously. To be honest, I would too if I saw a girl running her heart out while oozing with joy (it’s not sweat, it’s bliss – stinky bliss) & taking 849 photos. To my right there was an open field with the mountains behind it — it was the perfect mixture of natures finest.
I realize it’s hard to do some of the things doctors recommend — I’m a firm believer that although they are extremely educated & specialize in caring for our well-being, we know our bodies best. Just because you might not agree with “their way” doesn’t mean you can’t find another way. Take care of yourself by listening, and watching, your body. There are countless ways to be healthy that do not include weight lifting & marathons. Find what works for you & do it. When I’d rather not, I remind myself: our bodies keep track of everything we do, even when we do not.

Enjoying the Tangible

[ now playing ‘momma’s music’ ]

Its pouring outside today & I can’t quite find the sun’s hiding spot in the sky. That’s okay, because I’ve decided to stop looking for what’s missing & begin enjoying the tangible. I love the rain because it forces me to seek the sunshine in my life. Cheers to you being one of the many beautiful rays that shine light in this life of mine! Wahoo! Thank you for being here. (if you care, I cheers’d with my cup of joe;)

Last night I went to sleep next to my love in our brand new bed (my sweet Andy truly spoils me) and I woke up to the best news ever! After 14 weeks of pushing myself harder than I ever have at school I finally have results: I received my first A on an article!!! Many may laugh at this because A’s might be your average — but an ‘A’ to me means I’m finally getting it. I am LEARNING! My professor doesn’t give A’s often, so I am absolutely ecstatic. This is what I woke up to at 5:45 a.m.  “Wake up! Smell the coffee! Enjoy the ‘A’ you got on your week 12 paper!!!!”

Last night I told Kelsey how frustrated I was with myself and my performance at school — I’d be lying if I said giving up never crossed my mind. This ‘A’ has given me the confidence to fight through the last part of finals, or as Professor LaPlante calls it, ‘The Crucible’.

.

Anyway, I just realized I need to stop blogging about it & be about it – I’ve got class in an hour!

Kissing Strangers

Happy Sunday my sweets! I am spending my time wisely today by checking things off of all my lifesaving-lists. One of my to-do’s this morning was ‘make sun tea’ :)

Even though I haven’t been writing new posts I’m still trying keep things interesting around here. I mean, we’ve been together for over a year… I can’t just blow you off like that, you know? I’ve been posting different things that I find inspiring, helpful, or just share-worthy on Commander In Chic’s FaceBook page. I also tweet regularly & you know I am always on top of my Instagram game. So pop on over and join the mid-study celebrations my friend!

Today I shared a delicious recipe for: balsamic grilled summer vegetables with basil and quionoa salad. Ew. Did you just drool on your yourself/laptop?… Sicko. (I did too)

There are also directions for cleaning your nasty ass washing machine — I did it today & could not be happier or more weirdly-excited to bust out my laundry. Trust me on this one, detailing washing machines is easier than it sounds (and yes, it’s a real thing, to all the smartasses reading this laughing at my laundrycitement ;)

I’ll begin replying to your kind words this evening!! This is my favorite part because if I wanted to talk to myself I would……. And well, sometimes I do. But you’re much more fun anyway. Our discussions are important to me, which is why I believe in setting aside some time to maintain them. As you know, hearing from you is one of the most rewarding things to me. Let it out babydoll!

Anywho, it’s game time and my Giants are about to show ya how it’s done. Tune in folks… Oh, and I will also be mourning Brian Wilson’s injury/season-destroyer. Whether it’s in action or not, I still fear the beard/have dreams about it that we don’t talk about on here. Smooching and missing the hell out of you! Even if we don’t even ‘know each other’………… at all. :)

Proud to be slightly strange

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought, there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.” -Frida Kahlo

Take Your Baby by the Hand

Yesterday I spent a couple hours in bed after work with some weird bug. Andy brought me Kneaders & I soon realized how much some solid food and rest can do for a girl (one of those “duh” moments). Shortly after I was up and at it around the house. The next 4 weeks will be a bit chaotic around here because it is the end of the semester. Having my home in a good state should contribute to the fight for sanity during finals.

I’d say I’m ‘trying to get my wardrobe organized‘… but lets be real, when am I not trying to get my wardrobe organized?? It’s a year round, never-ending thing. All of my girlfriends know what I’m talking about… They’ve all been over for bags of clothes that my ass outgrew or the 6 shirts I bought because ‘they match my shoes’  (that I don’t need & that look exactly alike). But sometimes you’re left with some gems & those clothes are just too pretty to keep hidden in the closet — which is why the clothes rack was invented. Mine is coming along and I am quite pleased with it. Someday when I’m not too ghetto to buy the wooden hangers I will. But that day is not today.

[ since those with droids have instagram now, add me! username: commanderinchic ]

I hit a wall at about 11:30 and that’s when I found Andy in the kitchen. He had been setting his computer up for work & finally got his speakers to work. Wang Chung was blasting & you could tell he was trying so hard not to break out in a full on dance (he was doing the slow & discreet foot shuffle while his arms swung back n’ forth a bit. hilarious)

__________

Next thing you know we’re dancing in the kitchen to ‘Dance Hall Days’ while he twirls me around in my painting/cleaning clothes & sings along to every word. We almost made it through the whole song but our asses are out-of-SHAPE (& we both needed a drink)

We of course played Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd  & Can’t You See by the Marshall Tucker Band. I’m convinced these are the moments that true love is found, over & over again. Happy Friday sweets, I hope you take the time to dance with someone you love this weekend. Even if it’s just a bit of shufflin’ & swinging of the arms. It’ll feel good, I promise.

Motherhood & Tough Lessons to Teach

These two posts written by C. Jane Kendrick are quick & powerful; Both took my breathe away while I was reading them and I loved it. As always, I hope you love them as much as I do. I believe there is a great & beautiful lesson to be learned from them.

It will be years (+ a couple more for precaution) before I begin the journey of motherhood — But I’d be lying if I said my chitlin won’t have this onesie.

I hope you’re having one of those days where you get things done that have been bugging you for weeks. I know that’s how my day is going, and it feels so good.

Desperate Measures

My beloved french press broke this morning during a caffeine withdrawal. I’m so sad about it. All ya’all coffee-fiends know exactly what kind of shit show was going on in my kitchen when this all went down.

My hair was curly & sticking out in every direction from bedhead and my robe was tied in some kind of boyscout knot just in case. One sock is long & the other um… isn’t. Basically, I’m a wreck up from the neck up & some. Logan lets me down when it comes to a good cup of joe, so desperate times call for desperate measures….

———————————————————————————————————————————

I boiled water & put my coffee grounds in my measuring cup. Then I let it steep for 4 minutes, stirred it & began my lovely filtering process. I used my wee tea strainer (made for individual cups) until I had a full cup of coffee. Clearly not messing around here…

Then I took my proud & crafty self out on my porch & pretended to enjoy my coffee outside. That was quite the treat until I remembered how much I hate the wind (damnitttt). It’s just as nice on my couch with all of the windows open, so I am one happy girl. The best part is I’m not eating my hair while trying to sip my ground-free-coffee.

That’s a lie. The best part is that today is my day off & I get to spend it getting educated & loving/being loved by my sweet Andy.

Sometimes when you want something you have to figure out how to get it for yourself. And I was not about to go to class without at least one cup of coffee. I hope you’re having a fabulous day & that you don’t run into anything that interferes with you & your daily dose. All my love, Bee
