Sevenly

Working hard for your money can be extremely rewarding; for me, this is the case when I put my hard earned funds towards positive things. I believe one thing that can be very fulfilling is giving back, especially to those less fortunate. Someday, I plan to give more then just my time to the community & eventually, our world. I hope those reading this know I am saying this with a big heart & heavy dreams. As a college student I can’t always give material resources or funds but what I can give is my time. I also choose to lend my voice to great organizations in high hopes that I can help spread a good thing. I am genuine about helping others & eager to do my part.

After doing some research I discovered Sevenly: a fantastic and organic funding movement to raise capital and awareness for the world’s greatest causes.

So, there are six days left to reach their goals for this weeks cause: fighting hunger in Haiti.  (click text to be linked to this weeks video)

Lets help them raise $7,000 for Haiti’s people who are suffering & in need of real support.

So I am reaching out to you to get some help — can you take the 30 seconds to click “share” and make a social donation?

They need 4,361 Facebook shares & 193 shares on Twitter. If all of us at Commander in Chic work together we can easily help them get closer to reaching these goals. Are you with me?

Reaching New Heights

Today/last night my brain came scary-close to exploding from midterm stress. I worked for 2 hours today (I usually work 8 hour days) & dedicated the rest of my day to perfecting my midterm article & final project. After I got sick of gazing out of my window at the gorgeous day I wasn’t fully enjoying I took my work, green smoothie, and cat outside to make hard work a bit more pleasant. That made me feel so much better, it’s amazing what a bit of sunshine can do for this girl.

After that I continued to work & submitted my article as well as my project at 9:59 — right on time.

Special thanks to:

  • The universe for helping me keep a (slippery) grip on at least a tiny piece of my sanity during the last few weeks.
  • My family, friends, and readers for talking me off the ledge a few times as well as my amazing job & co-workers for being so understanding & patient with me.

I feel as though I can finally breathe… And show off my new BLOG! It is for school of course so it will be very different then what you get here at Commander in Chic.”Rescue me” will be covering news on the homeless pets of Utah and what we can do to help. I am really excited because as you know I’m an animal lover & passionate about rescue/adoption (Roman was adopted from SLC Humane Society)

Any & all support/feedback will be very appreciated (it helps my grade! which is always needed). I hope to maintain “Rescue Me” as long as possible, even when it is not a requirement for school. Getting a grade for making a difference… Yah, I have a kick ass professor. Here is the link (click highlighted text). It is in the beginning stages, but will be updated weekly. Thank you to Leslie who gave me this idea, it’s perfect:)

And last but not least my good news! I am not sure how or what caused this to happen but I am pretty ecstatic about it. Yesterday Commander in Chic hit an all time high in daily views, reaching 1,407 hits & 500 “WordPress Followers”. Although some may turn their nose to those numbers I do not — I try to reach out to every follower, reply to each comment and smile for each view. Truly incredible for my little blog I started almost a year ago (March 20th) for this reason.

You know I couldn’t do this without any of you. My dreams are coming true right before my eyes and I am so very grateful for that. So thank you for listening, I love all of you and look forward to many more laughs, happy tears, friendships and connections.

Web To Book

I have so many beautiful women in my life. Everyday I think to myself, ‘Really? Each of them seem to shine just a bit more then the day before.

One of those girls is the fabulous Elana. She and I think so much alike it’s crazy. I truly admire her inner & outer beauty. Elana has supported my passion for writing since day one. Often her ‘likes’ and comments make it all worth it. Earlier this week she gave me the idea to print out my favorite posts from Commander In Chic to compile a book. It would not be a book with chapters – I imagine it being something you would keep on your coffee table or desk.

I’d like it to be something you could grab for a quick dose of daily inspiration & self empowerment. This is something that is clearly in the beginning stages, but I think that picking the best posts on each anniversary of CIC would be perfect. So the first book would be called “Commander In Chic: One”

If you have a favorite post that hits close to home or inspired you more then usual I would love to hear about it. I will start compiling these posts and begin the creation of this book. Would it be something you would consider purchasing? March 20th will be ‘Commander In Chics’ birthday! This journey has been miraculous, and I would not have shared it with anyone but you. Thank you…

Ps. Check out Elana’s Photography – She does an incredible job & will bring the beauty you never knew existed to the surface.

I Spy

I adore this DIY clutch from I Spy DIY

Sometimes you don’t need a big bag when you’re at a cocktail party. A clutch is perfect for those kind of events or a day out on the town.  This is super easy to do & inexpensive. Get to it, babes!

Oh, and for the love of god, please paint your nails/fix any chips. If you don’t that will be one of the first things people see. I am guilty of this in the past until I realized how awful it looks and how fun it is to try new nail styles.

xoxo

I also love both of these clutches

Unbreakable

”It’s also helpful to realize that this very body that we have, that’s sitting right here right now…with its aches and its pleasures…is exactly what we need to be fully human, fully awake, fully alive.”

Pema Chodron

You will never be younger then you are in this very moment, this very second in time. I complain so much. More then I should. My knee’s ache, my ankles throb, and my hips pop. But I should stop. My body has given me more then I can ask for.

I want to stop bitching about my smalls boobs, legs made for a fighter, arms that can’t lift much, and hips wide enough to prop a baby on them for hours. I hope to work on dismissing my insecurities. My ass does not and cannot be perfectly perky and cellulite free. My face can not be flawless at all times. Maybe I am not exactly what I want to be, but I am exactly what I am ment to be. The love I have for my body begins now. The love I have for my body is unbreakable. I hope that yours is, too.

XOXO

Let It Be Chic

If you approach the world in full armor –

at the very least, let it be chic.

I may or may not be listening to Elton John while I carelessly dance in my room… For my safety & well-being, I will need a room where the walls aren’t quite so close. I’ve almost knocked myself out a couple of times.

PS. I’m sober, thanks for asking. But my wine glasses are en route!
