Hi loves, I hope you’ve been having a great weekend. There was a fair amount of Jameson, beer, late nights, and fat kid food involved in mine so today I’m taking it down a notch. I love Sundays because nobody gets judged if you don’t have pants on & it’s a great day to catch up on “me time”. My team doesn’t play today & I did all of my boring adult to do’s yesterday so I plan on spending the rest of my weekend snuggled up to the documentary “Bully”. I’m going to sit here in my underwear & socks that don’t match & eat snacks because tomorrow it is back to reality & I’m trying my best to be in denial about it.
Okay so lets discuss snacks. Pomegranates. Poms are my absolute obsession & they are in season so I’m all over it. The downside: they can be a pain in the ass sometimes. If you don’t already know the trick to peeling them then I guess today is just your lucky day. I learned this trick from my girl Martha Stewart.
Using a sharp knife, remove the top and bottom of the pomegranate. Don’t slice your finger off.
Make 4 incisions creating 4 equal sections. Only cut through the skin, stopping when you hit the pit/membrane (white part).
Fill a large bowl with cold water. Place the pomegranate in the water & begin to break the pomegranate into 4 sections along the incisions you made. Sounds harder than it is.
Now, using your fingers, pull the seeds away from the skin and membrane. The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the skin/pit will float to the top. To prevent staining your surface, it is best to do this while the pomegranate is submerged under water.
Before straining, skim the top of the water and remove any excess skin and pulp.
Devour like the pom-lover that you are. Don’t share with anybody.
My beverage, the detox elixir, is only 17 calories & it’s packed with a ton of antioxidants. The main ingredient, another one of my obsessions, is apple cider vinegar. It’s known to aid in weight loss so that’s neat but I just genuinely enjoy the drink because it’s a nice little pick me up. I try to drink one to two everyday.
Combine 2 tbsp of fresh OJ, 1 Tbsp ACV, 1/8 Tsp powdered ginger & a pinch each of turmeric & cayenne pepper. Serve cold.
Happy snacking & enjoy your day of rest before you get back to the weekly grind.
It’s too warm to drink hot tea right now, so when I fell in love with this sun-tea jar I ran straight home & put it to work. Sure is hard work… Sitting there, making something sweet out of nothin’. I’d like to be like that someday.
My beloved french press broke this morning during a caffeine withdrawal. I’m so sad about it. All ya’all coffee-fiends know exactly what kind of shit show was going on in my kitchen when this all went down.
My hair was curly & sticking out in every direction from bedhead and my robe was tied in some kind of boyscout knot just in case. One sock is long & the other um… isn’t. Basically, I’m a wreck up from the neck up & some. Logan lets me down when it comes to a good cup of joe, so desperate times call for desperate measures….
I boiled water & put my coffee grounds in my measuring cup. Then I let it steep for 4 minutes, stirred it & began my lovely filtering process. I used my wee tea strainer (made for individual cups) until I had a full cup of coffee. Clearly not messing around here…
Then I took my proud & crafty self out on my porch & pretended to enjoy my coffee outside. That was quite the treat until I remembered how much I hate the wind (damnitttt). It’s just as nice on my couch with all of the windows open, so I am one happy girl. The best part is I’m not eating my hair while trying to sip my ground-free-coffee.
That’s a lie. The best part is that today is my day off & I get to spend it getting educated & loving/being loved by my sweet Andy.
Sometimes when you want something you have to figure out how to get it for yourself. And I was not about to go to class without at least one cup of coffee. I hope you’re having a fabulous day & that you don’t run into anything that interferes with you & your daily dose. All my love, Bee
Letting go of my propensity to drown in a cup (or four) of coffee has played a toll on me for the last week & a half. To make it easier, I’ve started researching what exactly coffee does to you, one of which is premature aging. Isn’t that lovely? So with that said I decided that was enough to convince me to switch to tea. Today as my antioxidant green tea was steeping I noticed there was a little note on the bag….
…And as petty as it may seem to some, I think any positive message has the ability to increase the value of your day. So I’m going to keep on sippin’ for some sense of well-being and a clear, jitter-free mind & do my best to avoid the java. I guess what it comes down to is that I like cute shit, & this falls under that category. XOXO
