Chasing Dreams vs. Size One Jeans

It’s sad to me when I see beautiful women with the world in their hands practically chanting ‘thin, thin, thin’ as if that’s the motto. When did society get to decide your shape? And when did it become all you care about? What about your hopes & dreams? Imagine the life you can create for yourself if you simply put the energy focused on being thin towards your personal goals. I promise you’d catch yourself forgetting all about having the ‘perfect figure’ because people would be looking up to you as a person of success vs. you always looking down on yourself to check the number on the scale. That will come from hard work–it comes from being strong.

Ladies, I am young & many of you are as well. I just want you to know that you have the whole world in your hands! And someday, if it’s part of your journey (for many of you it already has been), you will be given the gift of motherhood. My main concern is this: how can we expect to teach our children self-love, respect, and proper care for their bodies when we are practicing habits that rebel against all of those things & more?

And to set the record straight, it is not just women who struggle with insecurities rooting from their physical appearance. Men have just as hard of a time although they might express it differently or not at all. So, this isn’t just for the ladies, this is for all of the handsome and capable men out there as well.

Put your dreams before your jeans. Stop telling yourself you can’t. Eat healthy, stay active, be positive and always stay focused on what really matters. Life is a balancing act & nobody is perfect. But if you can open your eyes to all of your potential and run with it I’m sure you’ll catch yourself having those rewarding “this is absolutely perfect” moments quite often. Once you control your mind you can conquer your body.

Don’t look back. You are amazing & you’re worth it. Go.

Birds’ n Bods

Sometimes when my third alarm goes off and I know it’s do or die for the day I just lie there and think to myself…. “Nobody would know… If I just called the entire day off. Just ONE DAY. That’s ALLLL I WANT.”

Yeah. That’s how much I hate early mornings, so trying to get me up early before work to WORKOUT is often a good joke that ends in some last minute zzz’s. I loved this article (click text) and the tips it gave for fitting in an early ass kicking to start your day with. Early morning workouts always boost my day. Plus, you’re buzzin’ before anyone in the office gets their coffee!

Turns out the early bird does gets the worm — and, with hard work & dedication, a strong body.

Oh and boys…. if you need to practice soccer, or anything in this case, & need to do so in your tighty whitey’s by allll means please, let us know! We’re huge fans. (Ladies, I’m speaking for all of us… I’ll just assume that’s okay for today)

You are a miracle

Curve: the loveliest distance between two points.

Our bodies are incredible — too often in life we forget to love them like we should. When we practice self-hate we begin to build insecurities — a nasty cycle that society has shaped to it’s liking. When you’re poking & prodding at the very thing that keeps you alive, perhaps take a second to remind yourself about how much that “not perfect enough” body does for you every time you take a breath, step, or experience emotion.

We tend to bully ourselves to a point that we would never imagine doing to anyone else. People spend their entire lives studying the human body & are discovering new things every single day. Being aware of even half of the miraculous things our bodies can do makes me want to be sure my body is in it’s very best condition.

If you can’t seem to get your ass off the couch to get your heart pumping, think about all of the people who aren’t able to run & jump & lift heavy objects because their body simply will not allow it. Those that need help to do everyday taks. How about those that once knew what it felt like to have legs of jelly after fighting to finish a run, but suffered injuries from an accident that stops them from doing so? Those people would kill to have what you are complaining about. This goes with everything in life — we must remember to shine light & show gratitude for our blessings.

Thank your body. Treat it with great love & care. Fill it with things you don’t have to question. I know I’d rather pay more for a quality diet & lifestyle now so that I can experience a few more years of this beautiful life as a result.

Think about it.

Logan Problem #1

I have morphed into a legitimate pig since we have moved. When Andy is at work, I tend to go into this weird mode where I just shove everything in arms reach into my mouth. It’s such a problem. That box of oreos in my pantry? Oh ya… GONE. And, I am pretty positive that my heart rate has not increased in result of physical activity in weeks. That is, unless, you count me BOOKING it up our stairs (always skipping a step like a 5 year old. you know it’s fun and you’ve done it), or the really neat anxiety attacks moving causes.

Anyway, long story not really short, I have decided in order to be healthy I need to prep.

We went to the store & bought things for:

Taco Tuesday! The first one we’ve had. I’ve never made tacos before, so I was kind of nervous. Handling meat freaks my shit out… But they turned out absolutely delicious. I thought I’d never say this… But they tasted just like my moms :)

Oh and don’t forget my huge glass filled to the rim with ice cold cranberry juice.

And this green smoothie that surprisingly did not freak my shit out.

So we are going to be making healthy, delicious, all around meals for dinner hopefully 3 times a week or more. And I am going to make myself smoothies so that I don’t eat & then feel like my stomach is eating itself 2 hours later.

When I was living in Salt Lake I was going to the gym almost every morning before work with Kelsey. Prior to the move I unintentionally let my gym habit slip. But, I am determined to get back into it. I haven’t joined the Rec center here yet, so Kelsey sent me this fabulous (ok kickass) site. I can’t wait to start, they have quick & effective videos that hold the attention span of a 5 year old. I’d give it a try. After all, Victorias Secret did just send out the swim issue… Uh ohhh.

Two Birds, One Stone

As you know, I am a self-love-lova. Which is why I bought myself this BKR eco-friendly water bottle for myself for Christmas. I thought to myself, ‘It’s improving my mental & physical health, & it is damn cute.‘ So I went ahead & got it. I absolutely love it, it has not left my side since I bought it. My mum has always been a firm believer in drinking plenty of water (especially when I played soccer). So even though I’m not home anymore listening/taking your advice, I am still referring to my ‘Momma’s wisdom’ file frequently. I’ll still say it loud n’ proud; Momma knows best!

AND, the best part about buying a BKR bottle is that they  invest a portion in initiatives that combat the global water crisis and bring clean water to people who don’t have it. Support TWO great causes… Those in need, as well as your own health. Treat yourself love, don’t cheat yourself. XOXO

Run

“Some people create with words, or with music, or with a brush and paints. I like to make something beautiful when I run. I like to make people stop and say, “I’ve never seen anyone run like that before.” It’s more then just a race, it’s a style. It’s doing something better then anyone else. It’s being creative.

Today I Am Loving…

This man bouquet. Every man would love this, I guarantee it. I’m ready for my lady bouquet, which would entail bubbly, lipstick, makeup brushes, & whatever else. (Not tampons. We can take care of that. Thanks though)

These bite sized pieces of baked brie. I was raised in a home where garlic & brie are a favorite, so I am all about these.

This man, for reminding me that sometimes you just have to jump and know that someone will catch you… And for being the one I can trust enough to do so. (Oh & for loving me even though I’m crazy) I love you so much.

This loft bed with a built in closet underneath. I love how simple it is, and the organization is awesome. I can’t stand childrens bedrooms with toys & what not just laying there waiting until you roll your ankle on them or puncture your foot.

This look

This woman! 83-years-old Bette Calman is living proof that the ancient art of yoga can do wonders on the human body. Bette Calman has been practicing and teaching yoga for the last 40 years and, although other people her age can hardly move anymore, she can pool of difficult yoga moves that put teenagers to shame. She can execute the “peacock” a difficult position in which the body is held horizontally, using only the power of the arms,  the “bridge”, “lotus” and can stand on her head with unnatural ease. Asked when she is going to retire, Calman said ‘You’re never too old. The body is a remarkable instrument. ‘It can stretch and stretch, and get better all the time. Forget age’ Ms Bette Calman teaches up to 11 classes every week, in Williamstown, Australia, teaching others the remarkable effects of yoga.

Because she could probably kick my ass.

Getting seconds at our work luncheon (because I can)

Savers providing me with an oversized sweater that I can’t get enough of. It probably came from a 90 year olds closet, but sweaters don’t require background checks. As long as they can mingle with my Litas & non-traditional Christmas nails, we’re fine.

My amazing grandma. I love her everyday, but especially when she sends me to work with airborne, crackers, & detailed instructions for nursing a cold/inversion-rebellion. She also knew exactly where my leg warmers were this morning when I was frantically trying to find them before work. ‘What would you do without me?’ Well grandma, I don’t have a clue.

So there are a few of my favorite things. What are you loving today?
